Biography and philosophy
I began my legal career in private practice in Lancaster, South Carolina, and in 1991 I moved to Greenville to work in the 13th Circuit in the Solicitor's office on the prosecution side of criminal law. Over six years I served as Deputy Solicitor and Violent Crimes Prosecutor in Pickens and Greenville counties, and I handled every type of criminal case, including violent crimes and murder cases. In 1996 I established Michael W. Barcroft, P.C. and began a private practice law firm focusing on criminal defense and plaintiff personal injury cases. Switching to criminal defense allowed me to use my insight into the prosecution’s strategy to develop strong defenses for my clients. I draw on the same experience, skill and knowledge of the law to build plaintiff personal injury cases.
The most important part of my job, and the part I love the most, is telling my clients’ story before a court of law. I enjoy litigating and seeing my clients receive the best possible results for their cases, such as reduced charges, reduced sentencing, dismissed charges or total acquittals.
From my long-standing presence in the Greenville and Pickens communities, I have become familiar with some of the alternative resources for those facing criminal charges, including diversion programs that can keep my clients out of court. In all, I provide understanding, straightforward communication to my clients regarding their case, options and likely outcomes, as well as aggressive representation in negotiation and in court to see that you obtain the most fair and beneficial results possible.
